Without a shadow of doubt, the Country’s economic recovery is well underway, with some economists predicting GDP growth in excess of three per cent this year.

With the UK continuing to build momentum, the future is looking bright for the SME and in 2013[i], 99.9 per cent of UK private sector businesses were SMEs, employing over 14 million people, contributing £1,600 billion to the UK’s economy.

But whether you are an established small businesses owner, or fledgling business looking to take your first flight – when navigating the minefield that is the world of small business, you sometimes need a big voice to speak up on your behalf to Government and banks alike – giving a helping hand to ensure you have access to the best support and services, to help your business run.

Since 1974, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has been supporting the UK’s SMEs (0-249 employees) by promoting the interests of the self-employed and owners of small firms, by offering a range of support services and undertaking lobbying activity on their behalf.

The FSB’s membership starts at £120[ii] and gives its circa 200,000 members access to a wide range of business services, which are consistently reviewed for relevance and suitability. These include legal and tax protection insurance scheme, 24/7/365 legal advice, health and safety and HR online support, as well as pension planning, business banking and other products and services designed to help members grow their business and save money.

With 33 regions and 194 branches, the FSB’s members are able to network with fellow members and potential customers alike, providing a supportive and collaborative community.

As 2014 progresses and 2015 looms, SME’s – the beating heart of the UK’s economy will continue to be the focus of Government and the strength of organisations such as the FSB will continue to show their value.
